The Essential Guide to DLT Registration for SMS Services in india

What is DLT registration in the SMS industry? Is it mandatory? What is the process?

This article provides step-by-step instructions on how to complete DLT registration and what guidelines brands must follow in order to comply with TRAI. Let’s get started.

What is DLT Registration?

On July 19, 2018, TRAI issued new guidelines, TCCPR 2018, for the Bulk SMS market in India, which included DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology). This blockchain technology enables SMS providers and aggregators to share and manage data more easily.

The main goal of DLT registration is to protect customers from getting unwanted SMS from businesses and to control spam messages.

In this regard, TRAI requires any firm that wants to utilize the bulk SMS service to register its business entity, sender ID(s), and SMS content templates on any DLT site. Telecom carriers like MTNL, BSNL, and Vodafone have deployed the DLT system to ensure consumer compliance.

How To Register On a DLT Portal?

Brands can select a DLT portal from a list of options based on price, registration process complexity, and customer support. For your convenience, here is a helpful comparison of DLT registration portals:

The DLT registration includes multiple phases to be completed in order. They are:

1. Principal Entity (P.E.) activation includes uploading details/documents of your business KYC, including Business PAN and Company registration/GST/ Shop Establishment certificate/TAN registration document / FSSAI License / Udyam Registration Certificate (MSME)certificate.

2. Header (Sender ID) registration – A brand can apply for a 6-alphabetic sender ID if it wants to use the Service Implicit SMS connection or a 6-digit sender ID for promotional communications.

3. Content SMS template registration – To be sent to consumers, all SMS content must be registered (or whitelisted) on the DLT site in the relevant category.

What are the next steps after DLT registration?

After completing the three stages of the DLT process, the brand may sign up for the SMS plan of their choice and give us the P.E. ID, Header, and Content templates details to info@digimiles.in.

It might take 24 hours to register/sync your DLT information with all mobile networks. Following that, our staff will provide you with the SMS login credentials and the API for integration.
